So I know what you are thinking…thanks for the reviews about Berlin, but what about ITALY?!? So, I want to first tell you about the absolutely amazing hotel we found after we were almost arrested. What? Let me back up. To begin our adventure in Rome, we had reservations at the Savoy Hotel. To say we were disappointment with the rooms and the service was a complete understatement. We had only guaranteed one night so we let them know we would only be staying the one night and that is when the “discussion” began. Let’s just say they were not happy with our decision and tried to force us to stay, at one point threatening to call the police. But this review is not about the Savoy…it is about the amazing hotel we found and the place we spent the rest of our time in Rome-The Grand Hotel Via Veneto.

veneto exterior

I just knew we were home when we entered the grand lobby and checked in at the individual desks. The service outshines the service at top US hotels. We were escorted to our large modern room, where they explained all of the gadgets in the modern room.

veneto bed

The bed was huge by European standards and extremely comfortable. D and I need about six pillows in order to sleep comfortably and they were happy to oblige.

veneto bathroom

The bathroom was spotless and modern with marble and glass accents. We most enjoyed interacting with the staff and the little extras. For example, every time we had a drink in the bar, they created the most top shelf, fresh cocktails I have ever experienced. One memorable selection was presented on fire. They always provided scrumptious snacks with the drinks which ranged from fresh chips and huge cashews to one memorable fresh seafood ‘platter’ that could have been dinner and included oysters, crab soup, and shrimp. These extras were all complementary.

veneto breakfast

We looked forward to breakfast every morning. It started with an array of bread, pastries, and tarts made by a local baker. Also available were meats, cheeses, yogurt, and fruit. In addition to these selections you could order any eggs or omelet you could imagine.
